Tips and Irreverent Viewpoints of an Executive Recruiter

The main reason for this Website / Blog is that after 9 years of recruiting I noticed it has become increasingly difficult to just be a recruiter. So I started this blog to be an avenue to give tips to the jobhunter on doing what recruiters do to help people get jobs so they can do it on there own. Also honestly I just can’t help everyone in the course of my executive recruiting work.   On a daily bases I get many referals from people I have placed in jobs, as well as other candidates who have heard of me, asking the same question: “can you help me get a job”.

Now the truth is yes…I can. But unfortunately that is not what I do, nor for that matter really what any recruiter does. In my case I run a “complete desk”, a term meaning that I source candidates, work with the candidates through the hiring process, do Business Development to get new clients and work with the clients as an Account Manager.  When a client gives me a job order I “tally forth” and go and fill it.

This is very different from helping to get someone a job. What I do is help get someone “for” a job. Because of this I am crazy busy filling positions and unless a candidate is one of the ones being considered for one of these jobs, I do not have much time to assist them. Plus honestly since I am not paid for this service, I just do a limited amount of advicement and send the hungry job seeker on their way.

Because of this I have actually felt a bit of remorse. I really enjoy helping people. I use to teach Martial Arts in the days when my body was much younger and thinner. Also I currently teach life skills classes to Adults and Juveniles in Prison. I enjoy teaching and passing on what knowledge I have that can be useful to others.

So I have decided on a limited bases I will be offering career coaching to those who feel they need ”One on One” attention. If this is something that interests you…

This is a customized service and I can cover really anything in the job hunting process you would like, but typically here are the areas covered:
